the housewife of the day could hope for. Given the offer of weekly terms on such
basics as an automatic toaster, affordability seems to have been a big issue compared
to today - but back then, they were built to last, and, of course, you could get
two quid or so off for a trade-in (complete with burnt breadcrumbs) ...
