Control Data Australia Memories compiled by Brian Membrey

Ex-CDA comments, suggestions, criticisms

Canberra Times, 23 October, 1973

“Control Data Australia announced last week that final agreement had been reached with the Totalisator Administration Board of Queensland on the contract for an off-track wagering system.

“This system differs in concept from that already installed by Control Data in Victoria or under development in New Zealand.

“Control Data will implement a "system of computers" approach with the workload being spread over ten System 17 computers in the central complex.

“The concept of distributed load processing, with each activity fully backed up and only minor degradation upon the introduction of a replacement or back-up component into the system, has been chosen.

“The implementation schedule calls for telephone betting and the first Brisbane metropolitan cash offices to be automated in early 1976”.
