BUTTON ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL ADVISER FOR THE INFORMATION INDUSTRIES
The Minister for Industry, Technology and Commerce, Senator John Button, announced today the appointment by his Department of Mr Trevor Robinson as Special Adviser on Information Industry matters. ·
Mr Robinson has resigned from his position as chairman of Control Data· Australia Pty Ltd to accept the Minister's invitation.
"This appointment reflects the importance the Government attaches to the development of these industries in Australia," Senator Button said.
At the same time, it presents the Government with a rare opportunity to harness the skills and knowledge of a very senior executive with unparalleled experience in the computer industry to the further development and implementation of the Information Industries Strategy.
He is uniquely well qualified for this task and for the task of assisting in the development of small, indigenous companies because of the depth and breadth of his experience covering such critical areas as:
training and education through his involvement in what was the Control Data Institute;
advising small growing businesses by providing financial, business, technological and human resource consulting through his role as managing director of Control Data Business Advisors Pty Ltd from 1981-
technological trends as a consequence of his own research experience and close involvement with the development of computer technology for 40 years;
an understanding of business trends and practices within the industry through his heavy involvement with one of the leading international computer companies.
"Mr Robinson will also advise on significant technical and commercial developments within those industries (both locally and globally) which may have implications for the achievement of the objectives of the Strategy"
Senator Button said that a high priority for the Special Adviser would be to examine the feasibility of developing the electronic components industry in Australia.
Last year, Mr Robinson received the Australian Information Technology “Achiever of the Year” award for his contribution to the information industry in Australia.
