General: A major function at the Division of Computing Research is to provide a scientific computing service to other CSIRO Divisions, certain Government Departments and Universities The central computing facility, a Control Data Cyber 76, is made available to users throughout Australia by the CSIRONET system of communications processors connected by Post Office lines. .
The major research work at the Division is the enhancement of the CSIRONET user facilities by development at the central and network operating systems. Allied research projects are in the fields of data base management
graphics and simulation. *
Location: Black Mountain Laboratories, A.C.T.
Salary: Within the range of Experimental Officer, Class 1 or 2: $8,069-
Duties : The broad outline of consultant activity consists of three fields; ,
1. Working with a research team of the Division
2. Collaboration with users outside the Division in long-
3. Handling short term users queries.
The time occupied by these activities is roughly, in the ratio 2:2:1.
Applicants should have the ability to combine an aptitude for investigation and solution of a diversity of computing problems with initiative in pursuing their own line in a coordinated research and development programme. User education Is an important aspect of consulting end proficiency in written and oral communications is desirable.
Qualifications: A degree or equivalent qualification in science, engineering or arts with computer science or mathematics as a major subject.
Training and experience in the use of computers is essential.
