Control Data Australia began manufacturing a new product line at its factory in Moorabbin last week.
The factory now produces cartridges and flexible discs.
A spokesman for the company said the decision to move into the manufacture of these products stemmed from the success of the company's marketing of a wide range of tape, cartridges. Ribbons, disc packs, tape cleaners and associated products since the creation of the business products division in Australia in 1975.
The manufacture or the new products will be managed by Mr Alan Brown who has worked for Control Data since 1964.
Their marketing in Australia will be headed by Mr Ken Evans who has been in the computer industry since the 1950s.
Control Data believes it could well move into other manufacturing areas in Australia in the future.
